4" Box Backplate

Below is a portion of spec. Never seen a request for a removable backplate on a 4" box? I guess since the fixture support/stem goes into the front you need rear access. So box cant be surface mounted then!!??

Lighting Fixture Box:
a. 4" octagon with 3/8" fixture stud.
b. For suspended ceiling work, 4" octagon with removable backplate where required,
and two (2) parallel bars for securing to cross-furring channels and extend flexible
metal conduit to each fixture.
 
4" octagon concrete boxes (AKA mud box) have removable back covers that come in various configurations. They also have KO's for installing bars through them. The rear covers come off so that you can nail the box down to the deck and then still access the inside.
