Happy New Year to All! Ok, so I'm shopping at my local big box hardware store this morning & hear the funniest thing. This local "electrician" ask the store employee if they could cut the 8' ground rod in half, so it will fit in his girlfriend's car. The clerk reluctantly says "uhh no." Funniest thing I've heard all year!

That's a great idea, then you can drive them 6' apart and no one will know. If that was an EC asking that then I think we are in a world of trouble. Maybe he was testing the employee.... I hope so..

Unfortuneatly, this "electrician" was serious. Worst part is that I've probably lost jobs to this creep. Bottom dollar is all that matters in today's economy. Human safety is not a big concern to alot of business owners anymore. I pray it gets better!

Dennis may remember several news letters ago from the NC contacting board. There were several EC fined $500.00 for using 4 ft ground rods for temp services. Dumb a**es

Quite frankly I am surprised the inspector would care. In Durham I hear that they want 2 rods at the temp. pole. We never do that in Chapel Hill or Orange County. IMO, it is worthless but it is code.

How would this be a safety issue at all?

I would not be at all surprised if there was virtually no difference in performance between two 8' rods and two 4' rods, or between a single 8' rod and a single 4' rod.

IMO, this is mostly about meeting the requirements of the code, and not a safety issue at all.
