I'm looking to replace a 2000 amp ATS. The existing ATS is a 4 pole. I understand the 4 pole switch but if I went with a 3 pole, which would be a solid bonded neutral, is there anything I would need to change? I'm thinking just the bond at the generator would need to be removed, otherwise bonding is in 2 locations. Thank you in advance.

Is there GFP protection involved?

If so you will want to stay with the four pole.

I agree with "iwire". If there is a GFCI circuit breaker on the normal supply CB, you should stick with the four pole ATS. I have also attached a WEB location to Eaton's discussion of 3 pole vs 4 pole ATS operation. It is one of the best explanations and discussions you can refer to. Hope this helps.
