How do you guys usually show/see 4 way switches on plan? Say you have 3 locations that you are switching the same group of lights with let's call them switch 1,2 and 3.
In reality the first and the last switch (switch 1 & 3) are 3-way switches just being used in a 4 way switching system. The only true 4-way switch is the middle on (switch 2). So my question is ... If I'm showing this on plan, what do you think would make the most sense/ the clearest picture of what I'm trying to convey in the switching system? Do I show (2) 3-way switches and (1) 4-way and tie them all to the lights or do I just show them all as 4-ways assuming that they'll understand the intent?

Thanks,
- Drew

If they're all in the same room I would label two of them as 3-ways and one as a 4-way. If the room has three entrances this shouldn't be hard to figure out. :)

I guess I just assume that an EC would understand that if there are (3) 4-ways shown, they can't all possibly be 4-ways.

I'm sure that most ECs would figure it out but the idea of haveing a set of plans to start with is so the EC doesn't have to figure everything out.

On a set of residential plans I try to get an accurate switch count. Number of single pole, 3-way and 4-ways switches (or dimmers). I could figure out what you are trying to show and then re-mark the prints but it just easier to have them done right to start with.
