Re: 4 wire cable question

When you say "another building (garage)", are you talking about a detached garage?? If so, how did you run this SER cable??

Re: 4 wire cable question

The designation SER is for "Service Entrance, Retardant" The cable is designed to serve as three phase service entrance cable and the bare conductor is sized to serve as the neutral.

hornetd : the ser cable you describe you can use it one way but mainly it was used for single phase service with separte netural and ground if you take the outer skin off and see the conducter marking there i know one will be black and red stripe and white or light grey ( one of two) and bare alumine conducter for grounding that one way i use it both way but for three phase i use the diffrent cable it will be ser cable but specal maded for 5 conducters for 3 hot conducters and neutral and grounded conducters that cost kinda expensive than the reguar cables are
