400 amp service through a 200 amp ATS Possible?

We were running a 200 amp service 120/240V single phase then setting a 200 amp ATS to a 22kva Generac Gas Generator. All was fine. Now, the HO blew up the calculated load to around 300 amp so were gonna run a 300 amp underground service now to a 320/400 amp meter base and set 2 -200 amp main breaker panels. The whole place does NOT need to function off the generator (and it has load shedding anyhow) I had a plan but no I'm doubting it. Is there any way possible to make this happen using just the 200 amp ATS the generac came with or do we need to find a 400 amp ATS now ?

If your doing load shedding, simply add another 200 amp ATS. Output from the generator would feed both switches. Simple polaris type lugs off the feed.

I would do exactly what you plan, but wire one of the panels (could be either MB or ML) through a service-rated ATS.

Now, sit down with the customer and go over every circuit and determine which ones should be on the genny panel.

We have done this a few times, we have two ATS, in our case one for the house and one for the garage-mahal. Also we have a lot of homes on electric heat and that has its own meter. You take the feed from the generator in to one and loop it to the second. Same with the communication wires to. And all should work!

I agree with Larry. You are only going to have 100 amp generator capacity anyway so see if you can get that across to the homeowner and select loads for one of the 200 amp panels and put in on the ATS.

If you use 2 ATS, you only parallel 23 white (transfer) and 194 red

you don't want to duplicate the battery tender or N1 N2 sensing

Correct. The manual shows how to set up two in a master/slave arrangement.
