A close friend of mine got me to bid on completing the main electrical room for a 12-story building. there is going to be a 4000 amp service with 150 apartments. I'm inexperienced when it comes to pricing out a job of such magnitude and how to proceed altogether. I have a copy of all plans including the electrical riser diagram and panel schedules and can attach if needed. I want to know how to go about to price the job. It's going to be a 3-phase 4000 amp service for 150 units, I know a switch gear is needed. I don't have much experience working with switchgears, would someone mind explain briefly what they are, why they're used, and how they work? Please advise.

P.s Let me know if you want me to attached electrical plans.

Thank you.

You will have more fun and lose less money spending the time in Vegas :)

1st question you need answered is "why is the original electrical contractor not on the job?"

IMO, it's a HUGE risk if you have not had experience with such a job.

i'm echoing with the rest of the chipmunks.... RUN. (the opposite way)

12 stories with 4k amps on the bottom... bus duct riser?
is the system 480 with transformers on each floor or every other floor? or 208 with panels tapped on each floor?
or individual feeders all the way up.... ick.

there are endless questions, and all of them have your profit, loss, and
potential bankruptcy hinging on the answer.

there is a very good reason why whoever started this job is no longer
there. it'll probably cost every penny you have to find out what the reason is.

*RUN*

Besides the fact it seems like a shady situation, based upon the questions you asked I am getting the idea that you and your buddy are not experience in this type of work. By that I mean the size and complexity. Unless you want a lot of headaches and potentially a bad name for you and your buddies company, I would avoid this. If you want to get involved in this type of work I think it best to start small and work your way up.
