I am confused now on wet location receptacle. I thought outdoors direct exposure to rain required in use type cover, ie weatherproof regardless if something is plugged in or not, 406.9B. But 406.9(2)(b) seems to indicate otherwise if it is attended. Inspectors seem to always require bubble covers. Is this an error.

Not sure how to edit with tap talk. I am referring to 2011 code with above question. The exception to 406.9 (B)(1) is also seemingly contradictory.

Unless it is a controlled industrial/commercial area, it will be hard to convince the inspector that it will only be for attended use. :)

This may apply to small buildings like guard shacks where there is always someone present and "attending" the outlet.
