42 space panel limitation

If you are under the '08 Code the 42 circuit limitation is no longer present.

While the 42 space limit has been removed you still must follow the listing on the panel. You can not put more breakers in than indicated on the label of the panel.

unless you change it to another number that suits you better. :)

I had read somewhere that there is some chance the manufacturers might supply new labels for old panels, but there is some kind of issue with UL on this.

Changing the label would not help much. The buss bar is designed to only accept CTL tandem breakers in certain locations.
 
You can always use "cheater breakers" (the ones for replacement use in non-CTL panels).:grin:

I don't recall just what the solution was but it seemed to involve supplying a sticker with the added breakers and somehow the sticker would make it OK to have more circuits in the box once the sticker was applied.

Since it has no real effect on anything I do I never filed it away in my brain where I can recall much about it. Perhaps it was just speculation.
