Question for those a little more knowledgeable about the NEC (2008).
If you take a look at the 2nd paragraph of 424.3 (A), it talks about rating of branch circuits in dwellings and then also in nondwelling. However the beginning talks of 'two or more' does that also apply to the 2nd half of the paragraph pertaining to nondwellings? And what would someone do(an apprentice) to get it changed a proposal or comment?
 
I do not know that I understand your question.

The first sentence in the second paragraph of 424.3(A) does not specify dwelling or non, that would tell me it addresses both. The second paragraph is specific to non dwellings.

The 2 or more....that refers to outlets, if you read it carefully.

I personally do not see a need for change, but here in FL we don't have much space heating other than the natural supply!:smile: I did think there was some info on proposals within this forum somewhere.
 
There are three requirements under discussion in that article. You did not ask about the one addressed in the first sentence of the article. A quick look at that first sentence might help clear things up for you.

The first sentence, the first requirements has to do with a branch circuit that has only one outlet. The other sentences have to do with branch circuits that deal with two or more outlets. So, yes, the ?two or more? does refer to both the sentence about dwelling units and the sentence about non-dwelling units. I agree with you that it is not as clear as it could be.

If you start at the back cover of the NEC, and start flipping pages towards the front, around the third page or so you will see a form you can use to submit a recommendation for a revision. But you have just over four weeks to get it submitted. They will not accept any proposals for changes to the 2011 NEC after 5:00 pm on Friday November 7.

Thanks Charlie... You did get the point of my question, as unclear as it was. I will be filling out the proposal form tonight!
 
So as an aspiring apprentice I decided to write the proposal... especially since the guys at class thought I was funny when I told them I was thinking about it. So before I ship it out can I get some feedback from everyone to make sure I'm going about it the right way?

3. Proposal (include proposed new or revised wording, or identification of wording to be deleted): [Note: Proposed text should be in legislative format; i.e., use underscore to denote wording to be inserted (inserted wording) and strike-through to denote wording to be deleted (deleted wording).]
424.3 Branch Circuits.
(A) Branch-Circuit Requirements. Individual branch circuits shall be permitted to supply any size fixed electric space-heating equipment.
(1) Branch circuits supplying to or more outlets. For Fixed electric space-heating equipment shall be rated 15, 20, 25, or 30 amperes
(2) Branch circuits in nondwelling occupancies. Fixed infrared heating equipment shall be permitted to be supplied from branch circuits rated not over 50 amperes.


4. Statement of Problem and Substantiation for Proposal: (Note: State the problem that would be resolved by your recommendation; give the specific reason for your Proposal, including copies of tests, research papers, fire experience, etc. If more than 200 words, it may be abstracted for publication.)
Section 424.3 (A) in its current form creates confusion as to what is actually meant by the text. The division of 424.3 (A) into 424.3 (A) (1) & 424.3 (A) (2) helps to alleviate much confusion by separating the two codes into their purpose.

There is underlining, strike though and bold in the actual form.

Are they teaching the NEC 2008 in class? If so, what class where?

The NEC 2008 will not be enforced in PA until after 31 Dec 2009 or basically 2010.
