I have a couple q's regarding a 460V-3ph line.:-?

First, what v. would I expect to see measuring from leg-to-leg and what v. would I expect to see measuring from each leg to ground? (265 v. btwn legs?)

Thanks a bunch.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of +/- 5% of 480.

Sorry, I missed your second question, 265v would be fine between phases and grounded conductor, the nominal voltage would be 277v

That is interesting. We used to give only 460Y/265 V, 3?, 4w services but have since changed to 480Y/277 V, 3?, 4w. We used standard 480 volt pad mounted transformers or 277 volt pole mounted transformers and bucked them a full 5%. We quit doing that about 15 years ago.

Grounded or ungrounded system?

Service vs Utilization

Service vs Utilization

Service voltage is generally 480Y/277V. POCO has +/-5% allowable. Utilization voltage for motors is generally 460V once line drop is considered. That is why motors are 460V rated, not 480V rated.
