Hello all. Would like some feedback on this situation I came across today. Was called out to give an estimate on mini split circuit install. They showed me the panel for the building and it’s 480/277volt panel with square d EDB type breakers in it but it’s being supplied with a 120/208 volt feeder. All the 120 volt circuits in this building are on this panel. Never seen this before. Thoughts and ideas are appreciated.
 
Nothing wrong with this. Panel board factory labels show the maximum allowable voltage not the actual system voltage.
Over sizing panels like this is one way to get higher AIC ratings using off the shelf breakers.
 
It's done quite often for the reason that Jim mentioned. Now you may see it done due to supply chain issues even if it costs more money as Jraef mentioned.
