Wiring an injection molding machine. Using a phase converter and transformer to achieve 480 volts from single phase power that is available in building.
Have 480 at terminations. But motor will not run.
Do I have to change taps in motor to compensate for phase converter?
Using 230 V to 480 volt transformer ( Delta Delta) 3 hp phase converter.

Is the phase converter 240V that then feeds a three phase 240/480 transformer?
Or is a single phase transformer feeding a 480V converter?

What size is the transformer? You have to allow for inrush in order to start the motor? :-?

I don't know what size IMM you have, but the smallest I've seen was 7.5HP, and the barrel heaters consume significant 480/277/240 power as well. I suspect that you are out of phase converter range and need to have a 3ph service from your utility. Most, even old, IMMs have their power requirements on the electrical cabinet. What is the hydraulic pump's motor HP, and what is the heater load?

They make frequency drives that hook up to single phase and run three phase output. I would use this instead of a phase converter even if you don't need a variable speed. especially on smaller loads takes less space and so far have been vary reliable for us.
