Re: 480 to 277 without a neutral

Do you absolutely need 277v lighting? Are the fixtures already in hand? My solution would be to order 480v fixtures. If you already have the fixtures, what are the chances that they may be multi-tapped and can be changed to 480v?

Re: 480 to 277 without a neutral

Thanks for the replies, So I can go from a ungrounded three phase 480v with no neutral thru a transfomer and get 277v.

This is new to me, can you help...because other than 480V/ph outdoor lighting (light poles and perimeter lighting), I have never seen 480V fluorescent fixutres for the indoors applications. :)

Other than that...I would have to agree with Ron and Dereck, being the other solution...a transformer ought to handle that.

Delta/WYE transformer will do it. It is the best solution. Perhaps solution is the wrong term, it is the norm!

Isn't 480 usually wye configured, are you sure you don't already have a place for a neutral and one just wasn't in the original installation?
