is there a problem using a 480 volt 3 phase panel on a 3 phase 240 volt electric service? i just notice this . this is an old building and so far there hasen't been any problems. we found out when buying a diconnect and cb for a job.

Is it 208V 3 ph or 240V 1 ph?
If 208/3 no but the cb's are more $. Also, make sure the panel is labeled appropriately.

NO. You will find that some project engineers will specify 480V panels when the AIC rating they desire is higher than can be obtained using a 240V panel and breakers without series rating. As a product example, GE type AQ panels 208v you can get 22k aic with the THHQB but if you use the GE type AE panel where at 277V the TEY is rated for 14K Aic and apply it at 208V which it is rated for also, the TEY is rated at 120V 65K aic.
