Will this comply with code?

Existing outdoor Poco 240/1 secondary xfmr --> feed new 1600A, 480V/3PH switchboard (outdoor)
Add 600A/2P breaker in switchboard --> feed existing 240V/1PH, 600A panel located indoor.

It will likely pass muster, but the devil is in the details. Seems like an expensive solution.
I want to correct: add (3) 600A/2P breakers in 1600A swbd to feed (3) existing 600A, 240/1 panels because there is no such thing 1600A, 240/1 swbd.

Your not going to get an existing 120/240v Single phase transformer to feed a new 480v piece of gear.

Now,

The Power company may provide a new transformer to feed a new 1600 amp 480/277v 3ph 4w outdoor piece of gear, but, there's going to have to be some 480v Delta to 120/240v 1ph step down transformers coming up somewhere in this conversation if the plan is to reefed some existing 120/240v single phase panels.

A more detailed explanation is needed.

The 240/120/1 xfmr is existing - 500kVA was built in 1980.
is the switchboard already there?

It is new swbd. Xfmr and (3) 600A, 240/1 panels are existing. Three panels are currently fed from another / smaller size single phase xfmr, I want to remove that xfmr.

If you're installing a new 480/277v 3ph 4w service to a new 1600 amp 480v 3ph 4wire outdoor switchboard,
and,
You are wanting to get rid of the existing 120/240v single phase panel feeding the existing panels,
You are going to have to incorporate some 480v primary 120/240v 1ph secondary transformers somewhere to reefed the existing 120/240v 1ph panels.

You cannot feed them directly from the new switchboard as was described above.

Can we use 240/1 xfmr to feed 480/277, 3PH swbd, then use swbd to feed (3) 240/1 panels? Why I do this? Because they do not make large size swbd at 240/1.

Sure they do.

Now, will the power company offer a service that large in Single Phase ?

I doubt they would.

Maybe feed the 240V 1 phase inside directly and hook it to some bus duct and then feed from there to the 3 600 A panels. All you would need outside would be a service rated switch or enclosed circuit breaker.

are these 600 A panelboards all in the same building? are you allowed to run three feeders to the same building?

again, existing xfmr is 500kva, 240/1 was installed in early 80 and works fine, largest single phase xfmr poco offers now is 116.7KVA.

Call the power company.

They will be the determining factor in what they will or will not offer you for your situation.

On another note,Panelboards stop at 1200 amps, Switchboards start at 1600 amp and climb the ladder all the way up to 6000 amp.

Even in 120/240v 1ph I believe if one actually wanted to go that silly route.

what is the point of replacing the existing stuff?

what is your plan when your 40 year old transformer dies and the POCO has no replacement?
Replace service to 208V three phase and all 240V appliances to 208V?
