10ftx10ft precast building has a 480vac panel board in side. We have two 20amp breakers feeding power to two outdoor 12kw/3ph portable submersible heaters that are to be used only in the winter months and removed at other times.
We want to have a local outdoor rated receptacle permantly mounted outside that the heater can plug in to while in use.
Can the receptacle stand alone as the local disconnecting means or is the receptacle required to be on the load side of a locally mounted disconnect?

I have spec'd in a Hubbell 430MI7W which is a receptacle disconnect with a mechanical interlock such that you have to turn the disconnect off before removing the plug.

The customer says this unit is too expensive and is looking to cut costs.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: 480vac receptacles

I dont have my code book handy but I think you can use the plug as the disconnecting means for this, If you prefer to have the combo unit try the twist-locks instead of the pin & sleeve, this will cut the cost some.
