Is it legal to remote mount a thermostat that will control a 480vac heater? I was thinking that anything that was 480 control had to be in the control enclosure where power was comming from.
There is nothing in the NEC that would prohibit running a remote 480 volt rated T-stat provided that the heater still has a disconnecting means located within sight of the heater.
Depending on what your setup is, it might be cheaper to buy a small 24v transformer and run stat wire to a regular thermostat, rather than having to use 600v wire and a 480v t-stat.
