Do most of you guys that work commercial and industrial shut down the power in the main switch board if you wanted to pipe in to it a new transformer for a new 120/208v lighting and appliance panel board?
Depends on what I would be shutting down. Take a factory off-line that stands to lose thousands of dollars every minute the power is off, well I try to avoid doing that.
If my choice is to work it hot or come back Saturday night when I can shut if off, I'll take Saturday night. So what if I miss The Simpsons?
If there will be exposed energized parts then we must lock out the supply power. We can pipe into the wiring compartments of an MCC without shutting off the power because those spaces do not have exposed live parts, but power or breaker panels must be turned off per the plant electrical safety rules.
