4sq box extensions

Conductors that go straight through a box would count as one conductor. Conductors that are looped in a box may count as one or two depending on the size of the loop.

314.16(B)(1)Conductor Fill. Each conductor that originates outside the box and terminates or is spliced within the box shall be counted once, and each conductor that passes through the box without splice or termination shall be counted once. Each loop or coil of unbroken conductor not less than twice the minimum length required for free conductors in 300.14 shall be counted twice. The conductor fill shall be calculated using Table 314.16(B). A conductor, no part of which leaves the box, shall not be counted.

You sure read a lot of incorrect assumptions into our responses.

No one here ever said we never have a box too small. No one ever said we never splice in those boxes. What code violations are we citing?

If there's no splices, then why do you need an extension ring?

First of all it may all be presumed. My question at that point was whether or not a wire actually had to be looped in a box not if it also needed a ex ring

I certainly never spoke about something not being a beautiful thing, being a code violation.

If I was not having an inspection done on a job am I supposed to do that job like I don't care? Do I make things in such a way that the next guy might have a difficult time with it???? No,I do it in way that anybody would not gripe because they had to work on it..

It's a sad thing that it seemed as though some people were stating things as though they were perfect. So I either presumed or
assumed, and you know what that does.
