How about using SCADA (System Control And Data Acquisition) and some sort of door interlock switch to alert the POCO when a door or cover has been opened or removed?

I would settle for them to just bond all the metal manhole covers, every year around here people and animals have gotten shocks or killed from these lids.

Not saying your idea would not easily be done just that they can not even seem to get the basics covered.

Interesting point...I'd be willing to bet that there are more unbonded covers that one would suspect. I did notice that the vault cover in the thread I linked to on page 2 WAS bonded, surprisingly.

The method of securing that cover though, was questionable: Two 1/2" hex head bolts on each end, secured by spring nuts in uni-strut that was anchored to the inside lip of the vault. The strut at that removed cover was deformed and one of the nuts was missing.

Wouldn't some sort of tamper-proof fastener be better?

The door "knobs" on most of the padmount gear I've looked at seemed to be something you could turn with a 1/2 or 3/4 inch socket.

FYI, I have a 5 year girl old and a padmount (Small one) in my front yard, the kids in the hood climb on it all the time, use it as a playtable for playdough, MLP's, ect.

This thread made me realize I have never checked it for a lock, as anal of a safety guy as I am, so I went out and looked, it has a one time padlock and a 5-point bolt so it is secure (Unless they find my 5 point wrench in my trunk). I urge you all to do the same if you have them in your hood, go check, you might save a kids life.

I witnessed a 7 year old girl crawl into an unlocked PMT
when I was 11 years old.A PMT that the day prior, I myself
had crawled into.To catch crickets for fish bait.Luckly the
little girl survived, but, lost both of her arms.At 11 I had
no idea of the danger. Even today at age 40 I can't look
at a PMT and not think of that little girl. This un-locked
PMT was also located in a "Low-Rent" apartment complex.

May God be with that little boy and his family.

never seen any unlocked but did see a triplex cable that had been laying down for likely many years right next to a steel wire fence. Could have easily made contact with fence as only couple inches from touching. POCO gave the usuall bs type questions. Told her i am an electrician and wires are from x former.Less than an hour and fixed. Maybe we all need do our part in checking our own hoods.

That's an excellent idea. Usually if you speak the language, and tell them you're an electrician, you get very prompt results. I really don't see myself as the safety police for the whole world, but an electrician can be a highly effective person in getting results.

If every regular poster here checked his own hood and any at jobs he is on we likely will find a few and just maybe save another kid.

Hey folks, I live about 4 miles from this and here are some additional links to the local news here. There is a special news coverage deal tonight on our local station that I'll try to watch - their interviewing the utilities director...

Even if the poco learns truth i do not exspect we ever hear it. Someone needs fired and sent to prison. Yes accidents happen but this is neglect. One of the stories says a truck was there working few days before. Lets get real here , nobody went there for free . Track him down and you solved it.

OK I am not driving now so I can post a bit easier.

I had not even read all of slicks comments, my post had nothing to do with his comments, it was a general statement aimed at all members setting out the rules for this thread.

Which you immediately chose to ignore .... no problem I edited your post.

YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO EDIT MY POST AS IT CHAGES ITS CONTEXT. EITHER REMOVE THE ENTIRE POST IT OR LEAVE IT AS IT IS.

I will edit yours:

I had XXXX read all of slicks comments, my post had XXXXX to do with his comments.

I maintain that mxslick's post demonstrated that social context IS relevant and you have edited my post because it contrasted with the validity of your statement.

Your behavior is arbitrary, it is against netiquette or anything that is acceptable. If not so then you would have been satisfied by removing your own quoted post in my comment, so it would no longer be linked to your statement and added mxslick's comments. I still find it curious coincidence that your post was threaded to mxslicks post, which means that you generated your post by clicking the reply button on his post, it happened to address the meat of his post, yet you claim not to have read it.

As you wish.

I have no idea what you mean.

Your behavior is arbitrary,

I set out the rules for this thread in post #12, this thread had already been clsoed for driftting off the electrical issues and was only brought back because I told the other Mods I would keep an eye on it.

I still find it curious coincidence that your post was threaded to mxslicks post, which means that you generated your post by clicking the reply button on his post, it happened to address the meat of his post, yet you claim not to have read it.

Again, my post was not in reponse to MX post, I am not claiming to have not read his entire post at that time, I did not read his post at that time

Yes, I hit a reply button at the bottom of the thread, that is how it is done.

So let me see if I understand.

You did not read mxslick's post, yet the content of your message was addressing the so called offtopic - in your opinion - commentary he was offering as a viewpoint? You did not read mxsclick's comments yet you responded by clicking the 'reply' button on that post, so you were 'replying' to something you've not read yet it was in context with it? Run out quick and buy a lottery ticket, will ya......?

Laszlo, I will say this just one more time.

The post you are fixated on (post 12) was aimed at everyone, not MXslick and his post did not trigger it.

You will have to trust me on that, and if you don't well that is just how it will have to be.
