I am wondering what the average pay is for a 5 yr Residential Wireman w/license in Colorado. I have a company that would like to hire me but they want to pay $13/hr, this seems awfully low to me? Am I mistaken?

around here, a home desperate parking lot consultant (day laborer) is
$100 a day. that's 12, and they don't speak english.

when i first got into the trade, a JW scale was just shy of $13 an hour.
that was in 1977.

FWIW.

A EC I know is a Union Contractor.

They have 2 different rates for JW.
Commercial construction runs @ $42 incl bennies.

Residential JW construction (roping homes) @$17 without bennies.

This was a couple years ago when I asked.

well how much are you making right now? Round here we think 13 is good money. Of course were the 3rd lowest paid state. And thats even in the big citys of this state. Its sad I know

I'm currently paying an RW $18/hr. I am using him on commercial jobs so his RW doesn't help me so I am paying him as an apprentice. If I was sending to wire homes or do resi service calls I would probably put him to $20-$22.

Keep in mind there are dozens of variables that can affect this number, but it does sound low to me. What area of CO?

I made $16/hour when I got my RW (at two years, two weeks) and starting working alone and overseeing people. As I hear it, it is generally referred to as a starting RW wage in my area. I thought I was $2 underpaid by comparing to some of the other fellows' time in and responsibility.

I'm not sure how things are up there, but I would imagine you would make more, not less, than I would down here, based on the inflation posed by the skiers.

20-22/hr in eastern WA for experienced residential guys. I worked with some commercial guys one time that couldn't believe a residential guy got that much. They were getting around 20/hr. I don't work for them any more. LOL!

Well I was making 20/hr with no bennies and no license, I was laid off of that job though. My g/f and I are looking to relocate down to the Salida/Buena Vista area and that's what two EC's told me they were paying for a licensed RW(13/hr). They said they were paying 17/hr for a JW, I almost laughed. I was thinking it was in the 18-22 range, it's sounds like most of you agree. I think i'll keep looking. Oh and by the way, i'm taking my test next tuesday.

1st year electricians that didn't know a pipe bender from a hole in the ground start at over 15 bucks an hour in yellowknife canada...
totally depends on the shop and location and how hard it is for companies to find guys...

been there done that

been there done that

Just remember " They ain't going to pay ya any more than they HAVE to" Get some unique skills, go out of your comfort zone. If alot of people are saying "I don't know how to do that, or I dont have the tools, or such.. I hear a opportunity to make money!! The gumpy old plumber said "that don't stink like poo - I smell money".
