50 hz motor

Yesterday my Journeyman replaced a 50/60 hz motor with a motor that had only the 50 hz rating on it. The small industrial customer supplied the used motor that had been installed at a now closed plant. Are the new dual rated motors really that much different than the 50hz motor? Voltage rating was low as well.

A motor that is rated for 50Hz only will be slightly larger than a similar motor rated at the same HP and 60Hz. This is because the 50Hz motor draws slightly more than the 60Hz motor. I have never had any problems interchanging a dual rated motor with one of a single rating.
