50 Hz vs. 60 Hz

It depends upon the details of the appliance. A 240V 50Hz appliance is probably also designed for 240V L-N, not 240V L-L as in the US. If the appliance contains motors or timers, it might be critical to use 50Hz. Most 240V 50Hz appliances will not be evaluated by UL or a similar agency for use in the US.

The best approach is the contact the manufacturer for guidance.

I have an appliance rated at 240V, 50 Hz, will this still work on a 240V 60 Hz outlet? If not, how can I make this work?
As Winnie said, it depends on what the appliance is.
I'm from UK where the single-phase supply is 230V* 50Hz and Mrs B is from USA (GA), so we fairly regularly travel between the two countries.
Things with external power supplies like computers and peripherals are usually 100-240V and 50/60 Hz so work fine on either side of the pond.
On the other hand, kitchen appliances are often unsuitable.

*It's actually 240V but in order to "harmonise" within the EU it has to be called 230V. The 220V in Spain etc. is also 230V -officially.
