Q1 So how far does the Code require the concrete encasement around the non-metallic conduit to be extended in the non-hazardous area from the hazardous area? I'm thinking that we need the encasement just in the hazardous area.

Q2 If the hazardous area is inside a building, say slab on grade, and the PVC is run under the slab. Is the under slab really hazardous?

A1. The entire non-metalic portion of the run must be encased except as specifically permitted in the Article 514 and 515 references.

A2. Where the "source" is aboveground the immediate underground is not generally rerquired to be classified; although "depressions" below surrounding grade, such as sumps or trenches, usually are Division 1.
