I am looking for a code reference about GFCI protection on a 50A 480V 3PH outdoor pin and sleeve receptacle with a mechanical interlock.

Does it need to be GFCI-protected?

There are going to be twelve of these. They are used as temporary power to refrigerated trailers.

Thank you.

Is the installation truly "temporary" as in Article 590 temporary, or is the installation permanent and only used temporarily?

In general, gfci protection of receptacles of that rating and configuration is NOT required.

I know of no "listed" 480V GFCI device (or even 3-phase at any voltage). The letters GFCI denote a 5mA trip for people protection.

I do know of several varieties of 480V devices that will trip at 30mA for equipment protection. This level of protection is often called GFPE.

GFCI protection is addressed in 210.8. It only includes 120 volt, 15 and 20 amp receptacles.
