I am trying to find some warning signage on doing this practice at our county parks. Campers will plug in a 50amp with a cheater cord and then start turning stuff off till the stop tripping the 30 amp breaker. Is there code against this practice?

No there is no code against it, because everything down line from the 30 amp breaker will handle 30 amps without an overheating problem. That 'cheater' cord you mention is actually U.L. listed. They also make one so that you can plug your 30 amp camper into a 50 amp recept. That is against code because your 30 amp camper and wiring can theoretically take up to 50 amps without tripping. The #10 wire and insulation doesn't like that and the adapters are not U.L. listed.

Thats what I thought, I had seen in the code 551.71 that we should just ensure that we have both in place to eliminate this practice.

thanks
