I've been away from this stuff for a while, and we (except in PA) were allowed to wire diesel dispensers without seals nor x-proof conduits or conduit bodies as long as the diesel dispensers were not in a classified area (diesel because of it's flashpoint was not a classified area).

Since chapter 514 is "Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities", do you think 514.9 can or should be interpreted to require sealoffs even if it is not in a classified area?

I believe that the intent is that the seals would only be required where the dispenser is a classified location, but you could easily read it as requiring a seal for any dispenser.

The wording should be changed so that section only applies to dispenser handling Class 1 liquids.
