The subject paragraph is about using "hard" conduit for Life Safety and Critical circuits associated with patient care rooms.

In two of the subparagraphs, PVC conduit is listed and then prohibited for branch circuits to patient care area's. Are they telling us that PVC is acceptable for FEEDERS associated with LS and Crit circuits. If so, how would one meet 517.13 in these feeders? Provide a second ground conductor?

517.13 applies to branch circuits, not feeders. 517.30(C)(3) is for protection of the wiring of the most critical portion of a hospital's EES. PVC would still need to be encased in concrete.

FYI -- Critical branch circuits outside of a patient care areas would still be required to be protected per 517.30, but would not be required to meet 517.13 for example.
