Upon reviewing the NEC 517, I see that the code requires multiple things if there is a "patient bed".
However, I am looking to build a new Medical Office for outpatient exams only. No invasive procedures, patients will not be in the office more than a few hours; no patients will be bedded. General physical exams only.
I spoke with my local township permitting office who indicated my electrical wiring needs to meet NEC 517, but did not specify if my use of the office meets the NEC 517 definition. I searched the forums and see that prior to 2020, it would not meet the definition. However, after 2020, it is unclear.
What do you recommend for "patient exam" rooms in a pediatrician's office? Yes, I will make all the outlets tamper resistant/proof. Do I also need to change all the wiring and add multiple receptacles? Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there a document that would help the inspector understand the requirements?
Thank you.
