In a carnival midway situation would using hot asphalt and forming a speed bump comply with the intent of the Code to cover/protect/reduce tripping hazards of the wire (multiple 0/00 wire)? Is this a proper burial?

An excellent choice, I believe they are thinking asphalt is the cheaper way to go.

IMO asphalt would be a violation, I don't believe you will find 'embedded with asphalt' as a permitted use of flexible cord in 400.7 or 400.8

I'm pretty sure I've never seen the words "inbedded in asphalt" any place in reference to flexible cord. PS Thanx for the John Lee Hooker vid!
