Ok, I know this cable can come with either 3 phases in one jacket(essentially one cable) or three separate conductors(paralled??). I would assumed that it would be much more benefial labor wise to get this made up as one cable so in fact your pulling once. Is this correct. But when I look at HV cable lines(on poles etc.) I see usually see three cables going to the insulators so they are pulling three separate phases for a reason.

tri plex cable would be heavy. More of a chance of phase going to phase which would be a disaster! All conductors together will create more heat. Where HV disconnects are supplied you must keep them seperated or the potential of phase going to phase. There is actually a chart for the phase to phase clearance.

Thank Sparks. So most of the tiome you would have three separate cables for each phase. BNow when messenger cables is involved that is just to hold them together, correct?

Messenger cable is is used to hold the weight of a multi-conductor cable from one overhead point to another. The cables stay together because they are twisted.

It is not common to run three insulated phases together in one cable unless you are talking about Hendrix spacer cable, which is only used overhead. At 5KV the cables would be seperated, not insulated. If you mean 5KV underground you would typically run three insulated conductors together in a conduit or direct buried but not as a cable assembly. Using 3C 5KV cable just makes the job harder. It is not difficult to connect a pull rope to three individual 5KV insulated cables
