Recently I have been finding homes with 6 6 6 SE wire feeding 50amp ranges with 50amp circuit breakers. 6 awg AL is only rated for 40amps at 60 dgrees, 50amps for 75d egrees cent. but what about correction factors, the whole 125% thing?

6 awg AL is only rated for 40amps! Was 6 awg aluminum ever rated for 50amps?

It was and still is rated at 50 amps @ 75 C.

Assuming both the breaker and receptacle terminals are rated 75C it is fine.

At 75degC terminal rating, the ampacity of 6-6-6-6 aluminum SER cable is 50 amps (Table 310.16). SE Cable (Art. 338) is not restricted to the 60degC ampacity rating that Type NM Cable is (Section 334.80).

Joseph, welcome to the forum.

It helps avoid confusion if you post a new response to a thread that's in progress, rather than edit your original post.

What 125% thing are you referring to?

Was it 3-conductor wire(2 insulated hots, uninsulated neutral) or 4-conductor? You said "6 6 6"
