6 lead single voltage motor

I am working with a 460 volt motor with 6 leads. The diagram on the coverplate list the leads as w2 to u1 to L1, u2 to v1 to L2, v2 to w1 to L3 for delta, w2 to u2 to v2, u1 to L1, v1 to L2, w1 to L3 for wye. The motor namplate is in german. But it doe say on it 460v "delta sign". I would assume i would hook it up delta since the nameplate says it. But with it being from a part of the world that uses different voltages i could be wrong.

Typical 6 lead, single voltage motors are used for wye start, delta run. If you have 460 volts, and are using a standard starter, you wire it for delta.
That motor could also be run in wye at 265 volts.

Ignore this post...it is incorrect!

Perhaps a twelve lead, dual voltage motor could... but not a six lead [three-winding] motor. It requires 460 volts across each winding regardless of connecting delta or wye.

I think your instincts are good, the problem is, someone may have changed it up on you. It's true, an IEC motor designed for dual voltage would be 380/220V, with the higher votlage connected in Wye, not Delta. The delta connection would be for 220V. So if you take a 380V 50Hz motor, that means the windings are designed for a V/Hz ratio of 7.6:1 (380/50), which is almost exactly the same as 460V 60 Hz; a ratio of 7.67:1. So quite often, IEC motors are sold here as 460V rated motors. BUT, the connection would still be for Star (Wye) at that voltage.

I have, in the past, seen motors that are designed for 762 Star / 440V Delta 60Hz, made for mining in Brazil where they use 762V for trailing mining skids. Weg used to do that a lot. They then sold them here in North America as "460V" motors based on the fact that the motor can accept +-10%, so you connected them in Delta. Your motor, although not Brazilian, may have originally been made for the Brazil mining industry and sold here under the same pretense.

What voltage is on the motors nameplate? You said it's a 460v motor, and 460 is 460, no matter where it is. I work on European equipment. Just use your experience and don't be overwhelmed by foreign equipment. Wire it using the delta configuration and it'll be fine bro.
