If I have a buss switch that has 60c rated connection point, for a 50 amp fuse, is it feasible to use # 6 THHN to that then go to a junction box and connect #8 type W cord for a drop?

W is listed as extra hard usage for 368.56(B) and Table 400.5(A)(2) says either 55A or 48A depending if it's 2 wire or 3 wire, so assuming load does not exceed values, it seems okay.

Yes that can be done and in fact, is a great way to solve issues with large wires on long runs.
