A buddy of mine told me today on a house he wired, a home inspector came in and told him that the panel cover he used was a violation. He used a 60 circuit homeline with the regular cover that comes with the panel (it doesn't have a door) and the guy was telling him that the panel cover has to have a door or its a violation. I looked through article 110 and 230 quickly and didnt see anything stating that. Opinions?

The inspector is wrong.

I agree he was incorrect and home inspectors should not be giving out code references.

I don't get it... You have to take the screws out to reset the breakers? What am I missing?

Not all panels have doors.

Tell the inspector you want a Code reference.

I know you love to say that but come back to the real world. The HI has absolutely no obligation to even speak to the OP.

The HI is not employed by the OP and is not representative of the AHJ working for the public.

I've asked many HIs for Code references. Then they try to look it up, and finally realize the truth. That's why I ask 'em for it........ to educate 'em.
