NEC 110.14 (C) requires the use of conductors sized to 60 Deg C when 60 deg C lugs are used, otherwise can size using 75 Deg C conductors.
I have only seen one device with 60 Deg C (OK maybe early on I wasn't looking) and that was dryer receptacle in my house, it was probably from early 1950s.
Questions:
1. Is there any new equipment being made with 60 deg C lugs?
2. How long has 110.14 C been in the code?

  1. I have no idea.
  2. It has been enforceable through 110.3(B) and it's predecessors since before either of us was in the business. This has been a UL White Book requirement for a very long time. See category code "AALZ".

I guess this rule applies when temp rating of lugs or equipment is not known (under 100A).
maybe some old hardwired oven? Or equipment missing label, nameplate or marking.
