I would like an opinion on 600.6 (A) (3). If there is an LED sign with lettering mounted to a building, does a disconnect have to be within sight of the sign? Or are the power supplies for the LED lighting considered a controller and then the disconnect would have to be within sight of the controller and not the sign. Or is a controller interpreted as a sign with scrolling letters and messages? Or both?

The way I read it, if the disconnect is locakable, it does not need to be within sight.

(2) Within Sight of the Sign. The disconnecting means shall
be within sight of the sign or outline lighting system that it
controls. Where the disconnecting means is out of the line of
sight from any section that is able to be energized, the disconnecting
means shall be lockable in accordance with 110.25.

A controller to me would men like a multiple contactor

I am not convinced that "in sight" and "line of sight" mean the same thing.

In Sight From (Within Sight From, Within Sight).
Where this Code specifies that one equipment shall be “in
sight from,” “within sight from,” or “within sight of,” and
so forth, another equipment, the specified equipment is to be
visible and not more than 15 m (50 ft) distant from the other.

I think the "line of sight" part probably means where there is some part of the sign where you cannot actually see the disconnect due to line of sight restrictions (like a post in the way or the disconnect cannot be seen from the back side of the sign), that is still OK if the disconnect is lockable.
