my dilemma is still should I upgrade this split buss 400 amp service to a 400 amp non split bus panel . He`s got about 9k sq.ft. and is adding about another 3k. and a bowling lane in future. I know I do need to do the the load calcs now , he has gas , I just have to please the inspector. Why here is I dont think they make a all in one 600 meter main breaker panel with 42 spaces . I`m looking at separate meter , disconnect and panel . Throw some info if anybodys has any . he has limited space thats my concern ,I know 400 would hold but worry about passing inspec. The service now is in a closet will all communication 8 feet wide at the most .

Depending on how the additions lay out, you could replace the existing panel in place with a similar sized panel. Then you could provide a larger service in the addition (where you can get the space you need for your equipment) and backfeed the existing distribution from your new service.

They do not make a 600 amp all in one that I know about. Usually with a 600 amp service you need to use CT's.... I would check with the engineering dept. at the power company.

That would be a good idea , the utility runs about 200 + underground to the street with a junction in between he`s built a retaining wall blocking it now . This is kinda being done of a napkin , he has plans drawn , but just told me about the bowling alley , and vehicle charging stations.
nect was near the street. We are waiting to here back from the utility. They may use cts , I havent done enough residential to know .

One of the power company's around here allows a special 600 amp meter base but no panel for breakers. I believe they are specially made for this company. There are CT's inside the meter base. I have installed 2 or 3 of them and they cost about $1000.

I'd love to see one. That would be cool.
I've done about 2 dozen 600 amp services, always a 36x36 CT cabinet.
