Ok just do add, I see 1000 volts in the NEC, so it looks like 600 volts was changed to 1000 volts in several places.

I guess my real question is what does it mean?

I saw the same thing, which made me wonder whats going on, or if we can now have 577/1000 volt systems in buildings?
You could have over 600V systems in buildings previously. Just a matter of the implemented wiring methods plus qualified service and maintenance. IDK if that changed any at this point. Perhaps I'll investigate a bit later.

Systems over 600 volts held closer to standards involving MV. In fact where industrial facilities wanted to go over 600 volts that had to go to MV standards, often going to 2400 volts and having transformers to step it down. NEC from my understanding never allowed you to take the same system designs and use them at 1000 volts.
