600A fuses in a 400A disconnect. Is this possible?

So, I happened to discover that the same guys that wanted to run a 350HP motor from two separate 400A disconnects had previously put 600A fuses in one of the 400A disconnects. https://forums.mikeholt.com/threads/powering-a-motor-from-two-separate-disconnects.2580335/

Notice how the long blades of the short fuses hang out of the clips at the bottom. Leave it to mechanical engineers to figure out a way to make electrical things unsafe. o_O

Additionally, the conductors are only 500MCM. Which would be ok if the maximum load was less than 380A, even with 400A fuses, but if the intention is to utilize the full 400A rating of the disconnect, we would need 600MCM conductors, correct?

The conductors to the motor would be sized by Art 430 Part II, normally 125% of FLA, whereas the SCGF (breaker or fuse) would be size by 430.52 so you don't need conductors sized to the switch but the switch does need to have a HP rating no less than the motor HP.
