New to the forum, searched but could not find an answer. Where in the NEC can I find required distance to >600V transformer primary OCPD (5kV 600A LI switch)? Thanks.

Even under the new rule in the 2011 code requiring a primary side disconnect, there is no restriction on the location if the remote disconnect can be locked in the open position. There is a requirement to note the location of the remote disconnect on the transformer.
450.14 Disconnecting Means. Transformers, other than
Class 2 or Class 3 transformers, shall have a disconnecting
means located either in sight of the transformer or in
a remote location. Where located in a remote location,
the disconnecting means shall be lockable, and the location
shall be field marked on the transformer.

Don, thanks so much for the help.

Since the switch is located a few hundred feet away, is the conductor protected at both ends, one with the primary OCPD and the other side by the secondary breaker?

don_resqcapt19, Your explaination makes perfect sense but I do not see 450.14 in NEC 2008.
