60A American Standard Panel

Alot of older homes in this area (Ohio) have 60A American Standard Panels with two fuse pull-outs (one for the main and one for a range) and four terminal screws for branch circuits protected by edison-type fuses.

Does anyone know if these panels were rated to put more than one circuit per terminal screw/fuse (like QO breaker terminals)? Most have two circuits per fuse. Or is it just a classic example of overloading a panel that was too small to begin with...and the eventual overfusing as well (i.e., usually replacing the 20s with 30s).

I doubt it, but it's kind of pointless to ask since the service has way outlived it's usefulness. If you are going to do anything to it you need to replace it.

I agree with replacing it! Possible fire hazard if you start overloading it!
