I am pricing a job to install a 100 amp sub panel in a barn 610' from the Main panel. I need to install 250's and am looking for suggestion's for terminating them at the circuit breaker. Any thoughts?

Splice the 250 Kcmil conductors to some #3 copper conductors in the breaker enclosure with either polaris style lugs or split bolts and then land the #3 conductors on the breaker.

Did you price out a set of transformers?

Say one 240 x 600 at the source supplying a 600 x 240/120 at the barn?

This will drastically reduce the wire and conduit size between the barn and the main panel.

You would have to run the numbers to see if the savings on wire and conduit outweigh the price difference of the 250 copper (Hot, Hot, Neutral) and EGC vs fewer smaller conductors. (Hot, Hot, EGC)

Interesting idea; you'd need 40a ampacity instead of 100a.
