I was called to job today to help try and figure out why the customer’s Mitsubishi heat pump ducted system would not run on his 9600 watt generator. He has this connected to a proper transfer switch and under normal utility power it runs perfectly. Recently during a power outage he transferred over to his generator but the unit would heat pump would not run. Upon inspection the generator was giving an output of normal voltage but 62.5 hz according to the display on the generator. This was also confirmed by a surge protector unit he has which has a digital readout on it which showed 62.5 hz from generator. I’m not very familiar with the inner workings of the Mitsubishi units but told him that the frequency variation is most likely the cause of his trouble and to have the generator serviced to see if there are changes that can be to make it proper 60hz. Also recommend that to ensure it doesn’t cause trouble on other items he runs off of generator. Can anyone share any info on the workings of a Mitsubishi heat pump unit and how it could be affected by the frequency difference. TIA!
