680.22 (C) Switching Devices. In this article it mentions (Alternatively, a switch that is listed as being acceptable for use within 5 ft shall be permitted)
What is the meaning of being acceptable? How would I know which switch would be permitted?

Being acceptable means listed, labelled and tested (not necessarily in that order:smile:) by a NRTL for use in that area..........A manufacturer's rep could give you such info as could your local NRTL rep if you have one that is approachable. Or call the local AHJ.
