I have a 1 1/2HP single phase, 240volt pool pump motor, wired with #12THHN conductors and a #10THHN grounding conductor connected to a two pole 25amp breaker. Does this installation require GFCI protection??

Well technically no but I don't think that was the intent as this pump could be installed on a 20 amp circuit. You certainly did not need a #10 EGC either. The egc never needs to be larger than the circuit conductors.
