I am trying to get a better understanding of the new Article 682. In particular, 682.11 requires that service equipment disconnect when water reaches the electrical datum plane.

Does this require automatic sensing and disconnection or what? This is new to me, and I'm not sure how to interpret it.

I have a client who wants to light up (50kw of lighting) a large structure over a river and the service will be near the electrical datum plane.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's how it sounds to me. I'm not sure how to do it. Perhaps you could use a level switch wired to a control mechanism that trips the service breaker.

I note that this section is talking about "service." I wonder if you can feed your lighting with a feeder or branch circuit, and not have to have automatic sensing and disconnection.
