I thought I had asked this question but can't find it, so I will enable email notificaitons
In 700.12(A)
"emergency systems shall be of suitable rating and capacity to supply and maintain the total load for a minimum period of 1? hours, without the voltage applied to the load falling below 87? percent of normal."

If you have mulitple batteries in a emergency equipment, and are testing them, is it 87 1/2% for the entire string or 87 1/2% for each battery in the string?

I would look at it this way. The wording "capacity to supply and maintain the total load" and "voltage applied to the load" to me would indicate that its intent would be for the whole string. If there were an individual battery in the string that was bad or weak that weakness would show up in the string.
