I have to get 20' from the first floor to the third floor with a 70A 2p emrgency power 208v ct. for a UPS
All wiring originates from same 480V source... eventually!
I can core to get to the 3rd fl.
It would be more direct to use the 480v emergency power pathway, providing color to distinguish circuits, 600v insulation and so on.

Art. 300.3 C (1) 600volts, Nominal, or Less. Conductors of circuits rated 600 volts, nominal, or less ac circuits, and dc circuits shall be permitted to occupy the same equipment wiring enclosure, cable, or raceway. All conductors shall have an insulation rating equal to at least the maximum circuit voltage applied to any conductor within the enclosure, cable, or raceway.

Seems this 700-9(b) prohibits in this case when it says the e-ct " supplied from source distribution to load"
anything else?

(b) Wiring. Unless otherwise permitted in (1) through (4), wiring from an emergency source or emergency source distribution overcurrent protection to emergency loads shall be kept entirely independent of all other wiring and equipment. Wiring of two or more emergency circuits supplied from the same source shall be permitted in the same raceway, cable, box, or cabinet

I would be surprised if the feed to the UPS is an Article 700 circuit. It might be an Article 701, but is it likely to be an Article 702 circuit.

Its off an ATS - theres a 500kW cummings out there
but the elevators never made it to the distribution.

theres just lighting, computers and some hvac - chem fridges etc.

thanks Don! you've been doing this for a long time =)

Don, If I remember right, the generator powers up the Simplex fire system.
So it must be a Art 700 system.
So can I pull those wires thru that existing pipe?
Comes after all from the same XFMR...
Thanks...

the ATS takes less than 10 seconds,
but there are no stickers on the equipment [brand new]
and the only Life Safety really looks like the Simplex...

If the generator and ATS supply optional loads like computers it cannot be an emergency generator.

He could have an ATS for an article 700 system and another ATS from the same emergency source (the 3 gensets) to feed Art. 702 loads like a UPS.

But it seems to me that we would need a lot more info from the OP to make sense of this. Also I'm confused about Art. 700.9(B) in the OP as it does not exist in the 2011 NEC.

In belief, man can do anything

I could see this being the best the installer could do if just working from drawing showing the locations of outlets for "lab equipment". But it would have been nice if somebody had updated it after the actual lab equipment was installed.
If the outlets (receptacles or otherwise) were marked with panel and breaker numbers, having the use identification at the panel would not be as critical.
